DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid

Anjali is a DJ, Dancer and Artist. Her work is primarily concerned with creating a collective memory through songs, dance and imagery while pushing forward a working class, immigrant feminist agenda on the dance floor. As a DJ and dance floor instigator, she has worked to promote the future and vintage sounds of the South Asian and Desi diaspora within the larger Global Bass movement. She moves between two styles of performance, from behind the decks as a DJ to the front of the stage as a Bhangra dancer, all the while exploring her own identity and using the dance floor as a place to build solidarity between communities of color. With her partner-in-crime, The Incredible Kid, she hosts TROPITAAL! A Desi Latino Soundclash (est. 2013) & ANDAZ (est. 2002), two of the Northwest's longest running dance parties. Since forming their partnership in 2000, they have played numerous festivals and parties together in New Delhi, India, NYC, SF, LA, DC, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. Anjali teaches Bhangra, Giddha and Filmi Item Girl Bollywood weekly at The Viscount Dance Studio in Portland. Archives of her years spent as a radio host on XRAY & KBOO can be found online. In 2023, The Oregon Arts Commission awarded her an Individual Artist Fellowship for Dance. 

Beginning with his late ’90s house party sets, The Incredible Kid built his reputation igniting Portland, Oregon dance floors with the incendiary urban sounds of international dance music. In late 2000 The Kid introduced DJ Anjali to the dancing masses and the two spearheaded the Bhangra and Bollywood scene in Portland through their ANDAZ night founded in July of 2002; the longest-running party of its kind in the world. Alongside fellow DJ E3, the duo initiated ATLAS, a monthly Global Bass party that ran from 2003-2013 at Holocene. In January of 2006 The Incredible Kid and DJ Anjali cofounded the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Kush radio show on KBOO.FM which The Kid still hosts weekly after more than 16 years. They simultaneously hosted Chor Bazaar radio on XRAY.FMfor seven years. They began throwing their epic New Year’s Eve parties in 2000, and have hosted the annual Bollywood Horror Halloween party since 2003. In 2023 Anjali and The Kid celebrate a decade of their monthly TROPITAAL! A Desi Latino Soundclash at Goodfoot. Since forming their partnership in 2000, they have played numerous festivals and parties together in New Delhi, India, NYC, SF, LA, DC, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia.
